Here is my experience and advice. I live in Canada.

They don’t really prescribe things like fentanyl and Dilaudid (or even tylenol 3) anymore unless you’re dying or you have a really good doctor here in Canada so I’m suspecting that is why they loaded me up in the post op before sending me home to take advil lol. My surgeon is from a clinic that is four women working together and they have a really great girls girl just girls being girls atmosphere, so I’m really lucky that I was able to get proper pain control written by women who care about women’s pain in recovery. I FULLY expect I could have been given an advil and a hearty pat on the back had any other surgeon done the procedure honestly, as that’s been my experience in the past with other things up here in Canada where if you look a bit alternative, look untidy, or just look a bit too uncomfortable during your medical emergency you’re automatically drug seeking lol.

I checked in at 6am, had the surgery at 8am. They checked me in, got me to change into a gown, and gave me a heated blanket and put me in a little curtailed off room on a bed for awhile. Then they wheeled the bed to the operating room door where they started an IV and reviewed the surgical consent and checklist. They got me inside and strapped me down onto a cross shaped bed, and immediately started covering me in more heated blankets which I appreciated as they made me put my bare ass on a hole in the table. “This is a strange place,” the doctor joked with me. They put me on some kind of gas and injected me with propofol. They were playing music in the OR and the women doctors were laughing and chatting with me which really helped. (There was a male nurse but he hung back while they were prepping me to pass out, which honestly I appreciated, because I was immediately anxious about a man being in there, but it was like 6 women and 1 respectful man.) I was OUT like a light within maybe two minutes of being in there, way before they started spreading my legs and getting my bits exposed which I appreciated so much.

The next thing I remember was waking up in just so much pain. I was just groaning and a nurse literally said “Let’s give you some fentanyl” which is crazy, I was shook but also relieved because I was in so much pain. They gave me some fentanyl. I told her she was really pretty and blacked out. Whatever else I may have said in that state is between her and God lol. The rest of the post op was basically just me waking up occasionally and them wedging a clean towel under my ass and checking a pad that they shoved between my thighs for blood, and giving me more and more fentanyl (again, crazy but thank god as I was in so much pain and that took care of it). They gave me maybe 10 heated blankets and were nice enough to wedge some into little heating pads for me. I had maybe the best sleep of my life at that point tbh.

They moved me to the second layer of post op recovery where I slept more, and then a nurse gave me juice and a cookie. They helped me get dressed (they straight up saw my bare ass coochie so many times just reaching in and checking my pad for blood so it wasn’t even that awkward) and then helped me to a chair.

Right before I left they gave me a dose of Dilaudid to take to last me the rest of the day (or until I could get home and sleep and start taking aleve).

I made it to the bathroom myself and they checked on me a few times cus I was stumbling around in there hitting walls.

A young man porter took my wheelchair outside and that was that.

I was too asleep to talk to the doctor in recovery so I still have no idea how it went: did they get it out? How big was it? How many were there? Any polyps? Did they get a biopsy? Lol idk. I’m assuming they successfully got something out cus that pain was brutal.

RECOVERY

Rest of the day, I would strongly recommend wearing either your worst pair of most hated panties with a big poise pad, or just wear some depends undies. Whatever the hell they either washed my skin/vajay with or maybe it’s the liquid they filled my uterus with idk but there is a FLOURESCENT NEON yellow liquid just getting all over my panties even hours later so I was grateful to have bought some depends. So far the bleeding is pretty moderate, like a legjt day of a period but it was pretty heavy in the hospital for awhile.

I have been sleeping and laying still with my electric heating pad cus I am DIZZY from the meds and shaky and have been sleeping on and off all day. Definitely need help with things around the house and getting food and lifting.

I am feeling constipated. I have been taking halls as my throat was really scratchy and dry from the oxygen tube.
