My firstborn was growing at a fast rate and by the time I was 35 weeks or so, he was showing as Frank breech, which is folded in half, butt down, both feet up by his ears. This position is impossible for a baby to be delivered vaginally. The doc tried to move him externally by doing a version, soooo painful and it was ineffective. I also tried acupuncture which made me dizzy and nauseous and he wouldn’t budge from his fortune cookie-like position. We scheduled a Cesarean.
I was fine with it, despite my first choice being a vaginal birth, the only choice I had for a safe delivery was a C section.
The Cesarean delivery went without a hitch. The scariest part was the spinal injection, which really was mostly mental fear and some deep pressure, not really that painful. Our baby was born heathy and we were very happy. The recovery wasn’t bad at all. Only one day of needing a bit of assistance getting out of bed, I healed up quickly and with no pain.
Our baby needed to wear a velcro brace to keep his hips in socket and properly aligned for 6 weeks. That was comical and created a challenged when changing diapers and getting him dressed.
Breastfeeding was another challenge and made me envious of mothers that had an easy time with their babies in this arena. Mine wouldn’t latch or suck properly, so after a 45 minute feeding he would cry. Being a first time mom, I was confused as to why. A new mom friend suggested trying formula as he might still be hungry. I tried it and he was quiet and satiated. I decided to pump milk and also give some formula as I couldn’t pump enough for this baby! It worked well for me and my husband, we could share in the beautiful experience of feeding our baby.
