My very first symptom of peri menopause was the never-ending period and resulting anemia-doctor prescribed 800 mg motrin (taken daily several days before period was due), medroxyprogesterone, and iron supplement. Ironically, anemia contributes to heavy menstrual menstrual bleeding, so I had to take iron for several years or the cycle would start again. Motrin was kind of counter-intuitive for me because I thought it would make the bleeding worse, but it’s a potent anti-prostaglandin and helped slow down the bleeding almost overnight when used in conjunction with medroxyprogesterone and iron.
